Privacy Policy

ReMatter (“the app”, “we”) is a local-first utility for archiving the Matter commissioning QR codes that ship on smart-home devices. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version: your data stays on your device, and we do not operate any servers that receive it.

What we store, and where

When you scan or enter a Matter pairing code, ReMatter saves the decoded data (such as the device discriminator, passcode, and a label you choose) in a database stored locally on your device. We have no cloud, no account system, and no server that receives or syncs your devices.

On Android, the app opts out of Google’s automatic backup and device-to-device transfer, so the database on your phone is the only copy. On iPhone, the database is included in your own iCloud or computer backup if you have one turned on, the same as other app data. That backup belongs to your Apple account and is governed by Apple’s terms. We never receive it.

If you uninstall the app without making a backup, this data is deleted by the operating system.

Camera

ReMatter uses your device camera only to scan QR codes while you have the scanner open. Camera frames are processed on-device to read the code. Images are not stored, uploaded, or transmitted anywhere.

Backup & Restore

ReMatter offers a free Backup & Restore feature. When you create a backup, the app writes a file that you save or share through your device’s own sharing options (for example to your Files app or cloud drive of choice). We never receive this file. Where it goes after you export it is governed by whichever service you choose to store it in.

Purchases

ReMatter Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase. It removes the free limit on how many codes you can save and unlocks a few extras. Purchases are processed through Google Play Billing on Android or the App Store on iPhone, and managed using RevenueCat, our purchase infrastructure provider. To validate and restore your purchase, these services process limited data such as a store purchase token or receipt, an anonymous app-user identifier, and basic device and country information. They do not receive any of your archived Matter codes.

Early access codes

Our website (rematter.app) offers early access codes to beta testers. If you ask for one, you give us your email address. We use it for one purpose: to email you a Google Play promo code for ReMatter Pro. We store the address with the code it received in a database hosted by Cloudflare, and we send the email through Resend, our email provider. We keep the address so that the same address cannot claim a second code. We do not add it to a mailing list or use it for anything else. The website form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated requests. The app itself never sends your email address or any other data to us. To have your address deleted, email support@rematter.app.

What we do not do

Children

ReMatter is a utility app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be noted in the app’s release notes.
